Purple Room

Louise S.

Head Key Teacher

Louise started working at The Discovery Center as a Key Teacher in the Purple Room in 1996 and became the Head Key Teacher in February of 2000. She graduated in 1989 with a B.S. degree from Eastern Michigan University. She majored in American and English Language and Literature and has a minor in Children's Theater and Dramatic Play. In her spare time, Louise enjoys spending time with her family, swimming, camping, boating, snowmobiling, reading, gardening, cooking, and entertaining at home with friends.


Laura H.

Key Teacher

Laura became a Purple Room Key Teacher in 1999 after graduating from Spring Arbor College, and she has thoroughly enjoyed her time here. She holds an Associates degree in Piano Pedagogy and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Spring Arbor, as well as a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education from Eastern Michigan University. Outside of The Discovery Center, Laura enjoys reading, teaching piano lessons, participating in Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and spending time with her nieces and nephews.


Julie M.

Key Teacher

Julie has been teaching at The Discovery Center since 2006. She previously worked for two years in another center with 2 1/2 to 4 year old children. Julie graduated from Eastern Michigan University in April 2003 with a B.S. degree. Her major was Language Arts with a minor in Early Childhood Education. She also holds a State of Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate for grades K-5. She enjoys scrapbooking, watching Tigers baseball and attending the games, camping, and playing with her dog. Julie and her husband became first time parents in February 2009.
